A STUDY BY A.B.FINLAY Ph.D.
ANCIENT GIANTS AND GODS - THEIR PLACE IN
MANKIND'S HISTORY
PART 2
CHAPTER 14: PRIMAL
RACES, REMOTE CIVILISATIONS
Maybe inescapably we come
to the conclusion that the "ancient" civilisations we read
about in conventional or "authorised" history are only ancient
in our eyes, i.e. compared with the present. The truth is, we
may believe, that there were civilisations far older dating
from a remote past, so distant as to be "lost in the mists of
time" as the expression is. Civilisations as we have said come
and go: they reach a peak and thereafter tend to degenerate.
Of course the problem is that we are unable to prove it as we
do not have concrete physical evidence of these very remote
peoples. But as indicated, we do have strong indications,
which need to be examined, and not neglected. One of the most
salient theses of the present study is to what extent...and
how...did ancient races apparently acquire skills suddenly
which transformed them into achieving feats (in various
fields) which in many cases we cannot emulate now.
Perhaps, the word `suddenly` is misleading; maybe it only
looks sudden from our perspective. Perhaps, as we have
indicated, high achieving races inherited their abilities from
a remote time, skills which might have lain dormant for
millenia and then were "activated" in a memorable era. Maybe
this esoteric and arcane knowledge was indeed imparted by
mysterious figures, the "gods", who originated not from
earth. No-one can give compelling evidence, but on the
balance of probabilities this viewpoint seems worthy of
serious consideration. (More on this later.)
GOD AND EARLY MAN
All knowing and all powerful beings must indeed have
seemed like gods to antediluvian man. The God of the Bible
who spoke to man and directed him could have been one such
being who appeared supranatural to existing humanity. In this
sense, the Bible could be read as symbolic, as an allegory, as
an echo of distant truths (not myths!) and whose narratives
are essentially of historical validity. Naturally,
conventional religious thinking will have none of this. The
central core of this belief is that Adam and Eve were the
first humans and that everything and everybody stemmed from
this fact. We affirm that these two were indeed created - but
by whom?God or the gods?
All the "significant" civilisations of the past (and
some of the present) have traditions of an early time (a First
Time) when powerful beings walked among them, powerful
mentally and physically. All appear to speak of a time when
gods and giants dominated - and often warred. This might just
be pride in a distant ancestry - or it may not be just that
but rather an echo, perceived dimly, of some deep-seated
truth, related now as legend. All suggest primal races that in
many spheres were superior to themselves, as modern man.
ATLANTIS
We have spoken earlier of the mystery of Atlantis: a
land whose inhabitants, many hold, gave the rest of the world
(as it then was) the benefit of their advanced wisdom and
knowledge. Where did the Atlanteans get it? From what source
was it derived ? From the gods? Whoever they were. Were they
(the Atlanteans) THE primal race (who derived wisdom from
elsewhere)? There is however no conclusive proof that the land
of Atlantis ever existed – but there are many theories –
orginating with Plato. It is interesting to note that in
modern times the American “seer” Edgar Cayce, in about 1940,
spoke of Atlantis being populated about ten million years ago,
that many changes took place in 200, 000 years of its culture
and that it was finally destroyed after the last great
cataclysm in about 10, 000 BC.
The end of Atlantis was the beginning of Egypt, Greece
and the Incas. There is the intriguing story related in
Plato`s REPUBLIC where we read of the Greek philosopher Solon
visiting Egypt and asking some of the priests there about
antiquity. One aged man replied that there had been many
destructions of mankind ….especially by fire and water. You,
he said, remember one deluge only but there have been many
more. There once dwelt in your land the fairest and noblest
race which ever lived…you are descended from the remnant
which survived.
FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS
It seems to me that the most important question of all
(apart from creation) is: where are we going? If we stay with
Cayce for the present, we can be improved, he believes, as a
race. Largely, this concept arises from the growing awareness
generally of the powers of the mind. Let us take the idea of
psychic powers: these will be developed in the future, Cayce
says, along with intuition and telepathy. But we must use
these – and use them intelligently…or the fate of Atlantis may
await…
The notions of time and space cannot be properly
understood by the finite minds of humanity. They both remain
mysteries….for the foreseeable future, at least. As Einstein
pointed out time is not a constant and an individual uses it
in his own way. As Cayce said, time is not the same to us all,
nor is it the same to us at all times. Awareness of our past
helps us to know the future. Our ideas of time, space,
eternuty are as yet rudimentary, so we must study them for
their value and as a key ,to our future inner life. We must
avoid recrimination however, and with Cayce, try to examine
our identity as a small part of a great Being and what this
means to us as “children of God.” (Cayce was a committed
Christian) .
Why we might ask has the new heaven and new earth not
come about yet? Because, says Cayce, it is a joint project –
the heavens and the earth are under the management of god and
man.
We have looked at some of
the ideas of Cayce because I believe he is an important figure
in our context and because these ideas will help to inform our
future chapters.
Like many of the
utterances of Nostradamus, the predictions (and allusions) of
Edgar Cayce are sometimes enigmatic. However, there is no
doubt that Cayce did refer on more than one occasion to the
quondam existence of giant beings and suggested that in the
distant future, evolution might bring about the return or
rebirth of giant creatures.
EVIDENCE
Geological and pictographical evidence suggests mankind
did indeed live millions of years ago; some of the famed
cities of ancient history and those mentioned in the Bible are
now known to have existed far, far longer than had been
thought. Maybe some of these cities, their walls and the vast
stone monuments around the globe were built or designed by
beings of unusual size. Not that there is no evidence, as
perhaps is suggested by my use of “maybe”; there IS evidence,
apart from constructions. There are skeletal remains and
artifacts (as we have mentioned). Also can we discount the
many stories of giants in so much ancient literature? That
there has been giantism in earth`s past cannot be denied:
dinosaurs are an example. Why not man? Scientific
investigation has proved that exposure to radiation can result
in unusual growth. (We have mentioned this before but it is
worth repeating.) A particular set of environmental conditions
is necessary, among which is a strong intensity of
ultra-violet light.
It is generally accepted conventionally that the
Sumerians were the first (or among the first) civilisation to
develop intellectual skills, such as writing. Comparatively
suddenly the Sumerians reached a peak of endeavour about 3000
years BC, which prompts many questions, the most important of
which is: did they achieve this technical skill on their own
or were they helped by another element – who could have been
the “wise” giants.
We have to admit there are many unexplained constructions
in the world, which suggest advanced and unusual beings had a
hand in them. Very ancient writings tell of a First race of
people who possessed great wisdom. They seemed to be of
exceptional stature and resided principally in South and
Central America. But there are legends around the world
concerning giants. The reason for their demise is intriguing –
and offered by many writers. Basically it was the advent of
the Iron Age which heralded their doom. The reasoning is based
on the fact that iron is strongly magnetic; (“precious” metals
are not.) and may be capable of “nullifying man`s ability to
detect radiation from (or of) the earth`s forces. “ (Norvill:
GIANTS; p. 128) The iron age began about 1000 BC –just about
when the giants and their wisdom declined. Norvill has an
apposite summing-up: “if we decline to cast doubt on the
Biblical texts, then we cannot disbelieve in the existence of
giants”. (p. 152)
ANCIENT PEOPLES AND ANCIENT
WISDOM
The more we examine with fresh eyes the annals of ancient
history, the more we are struck by the “intellectual
sophistication” (Schoch, VOICES OF THE ROCKS, p. 66) of these
ancient peoples and “their striking powers of observation,”
(ibid) ; people who were in many ways superior to us now, both
intellectually and physically. Above all. It seems they were
fascinated by the heavens, observed the sun, skilled in the
transportation of huge slabs of stone, out of which they
constructed mighty monuments. “It might well be, “ as Shoch
says, “that these vanished people are in fact among the
ancestors of the ancient Egyptians and that they brought their
finely tuned astronomical sense to the cultural and religious
mix…” [resulting in the Pyramids and Sphinx].
Where did this
intellectual sophistication come from? Was it simply by
natural progression or did the Nephilim (as we have suggested
earlier) interfere in evolution , using a combination of human
genes and their own to create a manipulable being.? The
rapidity of man`s progress (compared with other creation) is
what gives us pause. As Freer suggests, the first of our kind
were produced by biological engineering, not mating, and the
gestation was provided by Nephilim females . (See p. 55) We
have to deduce that some “specimens” (of humanity) were
“better” than others who were allowed to mate; “inferior”
models were perhaps “expelled” into more primitive conditions.
When eventually a satisfactory mental and physical specimen
was produced, it was named Adapa, later transmuted into Adam
in the Hebrew of the later Scriptures. This new creature was
basically created to fulfill the needs and wishes of the
master race.
I grant that some of this matter may seem less than
credible – but think of the giant strides made in many spheres
in recent years. If we had evolved and come to maturity like
the Nephilim many thousands, even millions of years ago –
where could we be now? In the field of genetics progress has
been astonishing: on the threshold of designing a new human
being. One day, it will not be beyond the bounds of
possibility, that relative immortality will be achieved!
A MUTANT SPECIES
The conclusion is that we are a mutant species: “we are
Homo Erectus-Nephilimus” (p. 64, BREAKING THE GODSPELL). We
are indeed a genus with not only bicameral genetics but of
bicameral mind as well so that a portion of our psychological
makeup is derived from a higher Nephilim source. Accordingly
we are concerned with our origins and our future; to do this
properly we must re-think the accepted chronology of our past.
The central role of the Nephilim as our creators and as the
masters of our ancestors we now can understand – or
appreciate. It may be claimed that religious dogma (and faith)
inhibited this realization. It is only recently that humanity
has begun to try to self-discover itself. The knowledge so
gained needs to be assimilated well and quickly to affect the
quality of our future. (A subject that will be discussed
later.) It is clear for instance that our present focus is
upward, in space travel, for our creators were travellers from
outer space and we possess an atavistic yearning to discover
and learn more – heavenwards. As Freer so cogently says,
“Those who can achieve an adult perspective will welcome the
passing of the mysteries of our genesis and having learned the
racial `facts of life` will go on to mine the past and
re-interpret the present to create the future”.(p. 86)
CONCEPTS OF DEITY
The central concern of this study is gods and giants.
As such it behoves us to reconsider some of our
preoccupations; those with phrases like “the gods” and “the
sons of the gods” principally in Genesis, but also in other
(more ancient) writings, Sumerian, Egyptian, and so on.
According to some schools of thought, these “gods” (as we have
suggested) were Nephilim rulers, taskmasters. Consequently,
the Deity is but a concept deriving from the relationship of
the ancient Hebrews to their then Nephilim ruler. It is in
this context that the ideas of Sitchin are important (and
which will be considered later.)
Religious believe is faith : not capable of proof; we are
aware of the innumerable unanswered (and unanswerable)
questions about theology, evolution, creation and so on.
It may be that some thinkers offer credible explanations.
These explanations tend to run on the lines adumbrated above:
that earth was visited in the remote past by space travellers
who created or altered humanity for ever, so that for
instance, Yahweh becomes (is) a humanoid. It may be that only
when this thinking is developed properly (as has been done)
that some of our basic questions can be coherently answered.
One of the main concerns
in the above chapter is what seems to be the rapid acquisition
of skills by the human race – with little or no apparent
build-up or development over the previous centuries. We also
noted how civilisations seemed to look back to a First Time
when life was developing along virtually perfect lines. The
idea of an Atlantean race who had somehow acquired great
wisdom and technical skills, as a concept worthy of
consideration in our context, is mentioned. Maybe more
important than where, when and how we originated is the
question: where are we going?
The fact that time (and speed) is relative as expounded
by Einstein and expanded upon (in our context) by Cayce was
next considered. The evidence for the existence of a very
remote race of humans (or humanoids) is alluded to and in
this connection we looked at the work of Shoch.
The prime importance of the Nephilim is again emphasised:
their part in the development and evolution of homo sapiens,
by means of biological engineering. The conclusion is that we
are a mutant species, concerned with mundane matters but also
with our origins and our future – this is why we look to skies
and explore.
Finally, we examined the concept of deity (or The Deity)
and of God/gods. Religion (like much of the discussion in
Part 2) is a question of belief – and faith.
In the next section we
shall be considering in more detail the idea of receiving
knowledge from another (or other) world; the seeming
conclusion that we have forgotten arts and skills once known
to humanity:our “collective amnesia” as Hancock calls it. The
contribution of Drake and Marston, influential thinkers and
writers both, to our debate.
